ALITALIA EXPRESS
To ensure Alitalia’s presence in all market segments, Alitalia Express was set up in 1996, specialised in regional air transport. The company started operations in 1997 and now has about 600 employees, most of whom work in the flight operations unit (247 pilots and 165 flight attendants), serving 23 destinations in Italy and Europe, and carrying more than a million passengers a year.

The company’s aim is to build up links between medium-sized airports (point-to-point) and between these and main international and intercontinental airports (hubs), ensuring that service is available for customers coming from all over Italy and Europe. Alitalia Express operates a fleet of 22 aircraft, using a mix of jets (15 planes out of 22, with average seating capacity of 58) and turboprops (with 66 seats).

In particular, the twin-jet Embraer 170, made in Brazil, is the plane chosen by the company to handle passenger traffic efficiently. The plane came into service in April 2004, and one of its strong points is the high level of comfort in the cabin. There is also special attention for physically-impaired passengers. On flights using these planes, the seat pockets contain a special sheet of safety instructions for sight-impaired people.
