MAINTENANCE
Alitalia Servizi deals with maintenance and servicing for the Alitalia fleet and for third parties from other countries, through the Engineering & Maintenance business unit and two subsidiaries: Atitech and Alitalia Maintenance Systems.
Overall maintenance activities involve about 3,400 people. Most of their work concerns airframes, equipment, systems and components. The skills and certifications possessed by the organization allow it to offer services for a vast range of aircraft: from the more traditional (MD80) to those equipped with more advanced technologies (A320 and B777 families).
Maintenance is carried out with the idea of preventing the onset of malfunctions. The operations are carried out at regular intervals and are gradually intensified. They range from simple inspection between landing and takeoff (transit) to “Check D”, which lasts about a month during which the plane is completely dismantled, each component is overhauled and then reassembled again. It goes without saying that the organization is always ready to take action in the case of unforeseen anomalies and needs.
Alitalia Maintenance Systems (AMS) is split between Alitalia Servizi 60% and Lufthansa Technik 40%. The company includes about 400 specialized technicians who carry out maintenance and overhauling for the engines of the Alitalia fleet and those of third parties from other countries. AMS is based at Fiumicino airport in a modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment able to handle 100 engines and 200 APUs (Auxiliary Power Units) annually.
Atitech is specialized in overhauling aircraft of small and medium dimensions (narrow body), from the MD 80 and 90 to the Airbus 319, 320 and 321. The company employs about 650 people and has its operational base next to Naples Capodichino airport. Its main client is Alitalia but the number of companies that use the skills of its technicians is growing. Atitech also has its own centre for training and upgrading its technicians.
